Refresher Knitting Classes

Are you looking to refresh your knitting skills? Join us for a refresher knitting course, perfect for people who have not knitted for a while and would like to start again. Over the course of two classes we will revisit the basics of knitting, while making a beautiful hand knitted hat using high quality Scottish wool! All classes are taught by professional knitting and crochet teacher Samira Hill in a positive and encouraging environment to make sure every knitter learns and regains confidence in all essential knitting skills.

Week 1: Tuesday 9th June

Revisit casting on, the knit stitch, the purl stitch, ribbing, increasing and stocking stitch in class, so that participants can practise their skills on knitting the brim and main body of the hat at home.

Week 2: Tuesday 16th June

Troubleshooting session, fixing mistakes, learn to decrease for the crown, gather the top of the hat and learn to seam neatly using mattress stitch.

Equipment

Please bring your own needles: 5mm & 5.5mm knitting needles are required, plus a tapestry needle.

Knitting yarn and pattern included in the price.

About Samira

Samira Hill is a former professional archaeologist based in the Scottish Borders. After spending years digging and travelling around the world (always with her knitting), Samira has been teaching all aspects of knitting and crochet professionally to all ages since 2013. She loves to empower crafters with new skills, encouraging them not to be deterred by techniques that "look hard!".  She is a published designer of knitting, crochet and Tunisian crochet patterns, and technical editor for independent designers and publications. Samira is the organiser of the annual Tangled Galashiels Fibre Festival in the Scottish Borders.
