Kitty standing in front of the Scottish Textiles Showcase shop

Kitty

Founder Director of the Scottish Textiles Showcase and designer of our Harris Tweed scarf collection, Kitty has been a long term champion of Made in Scotland. She enjoys sharing her love of textiles with our customers, encouraging us to shop sustainably and consider our carbon footprint. Kitty also enjoys practising her Italian, French and Spanish with our overseas visitors.

Ellen standing on the shore on the Isle of Mull

Ellen

Ellen studied printed & dyed textiles at Glasgow School of Art. She now produces a range of printed silk scarves which are available to buy in store. Her designs are influenced by the places she has lived and visited; from the Isle of Mull in the Inner Hebrides, to Kyoto, Japan where she spent a term studying.

Kayleigh

Kayleigh specialised in printed textile design at Heriot Watt University and makes our own label tweed bags and purses which are sewn in house using tweed remnants. She travels to work by train from the Scottish Borders with her adorable pup Squid (son of Willow). He has adapted well to the shop dog role and is invariably popular with our customers!

Flora in the Scottish Textiles Showcase shop.

Flora

Flora specialised in knit design at Glasgow School of Art. With a focus on British wool, she designs and knits using her domestic Brother knitting machine. Flora's range of knitted accessories and garments include her popular tie vests and scarves, available in store.

Portrait of Susan, editor of the Journal of Scottish Yarn

Susan

Editor of The Journal of Scottish Yarns, Susan shares our passion for promoting Scottish textiles and telling the stories of mills and makers. After 30 years in financial services, always curious and always knitting, Susan enjoys hanging out with wool and answering questions such as ‘Why is Scotland famous for cashmere?’

Portrait of Julie

Julie

Julie specialised in weaving and knitting at Rhode Island School of Design and went on to work collaboratively with Lila’s Mountain Farm, a sheep and flower farm in Massachusetts for two years. When she is not on a farm or in the store, you can find her weaving on her 100 year old loom!

Mary

Our scrupulous bookkeeper Mary has a keen eye for detail and will leave no stone unturned in the quest to resolve the numerical challenges that inevitably come her way each day! An Economics and Accounting graduate from Edinburgh University, Mary has worked with us since we first opened at the Tron Kirk in May 2019.

Willow, Squid & Toto

Kitty’s dog Willow had nine pups in December 2022. Kayleigh is the proud owner of Squid, while Kitty couldn't resist keeping Toto! If you feel like a cuddle with this friendly gang, you will usually find at least one of them in the shop, so do pop in to say hello!
