Balmerino

Scottish farmer Rachel Crawford has developed a special breed of Balmerino™ sheep, bred specifically for their fine, luxurious wool. With a low micron count, the yarn spun from their fleece is so soft it can be worn comfortably next to the skin. The Balmerino breed is a variety of Scottish Merino.

Rachel has transformed her family farm in Fife from intense arable to organic livestock. She has a deep rooted ambition to produce wool suitable for knitting garments whilst also boosting the insect and bird populations on her land. The change in management has notably improved the curlew numbers whose long and heartwarming call can be heard from anywhere on the farm.
