Balmerino® knitting yarn is uniquely Scottish and created by Scottish farmer Rachel Crawford, based in the Kingdom of Fife in Scotland.  Rachel has developed a range of super soft knitting yarn from their flock of Balmerino® sheep, a variety of Scottish merino noted for their fine, luxurious wool. We have a range of six gorgeous colours.

Rachel is transforming her family farm from intense arable to organic sheep and has a deep rooted ambition to produce wool suitable for knitted garments. Rotational sheep grazing promotes long pasture growth, allowing pastures to flower and seed to support an abundance of wildlife. The change in management has notably improved bird populations, particular the curlew whose long and heartwarming call can be heard from anywhere on the farm.
