Shetland Foula Hametoun Hat Knitting Kit

Shetland Fair Isle knitting kit for a Hametoun hat with native Shetland wool.

The Hametoun hat kit includes 1 ball of un-dyed Foula wool. Foula is an island with its own indigenous population of Shetland sheep. Their naturally coloured fleeces are hand sheared and spun in Foula to create a unique range of yarn. Hametoun is a settlement of scattered crofts in the south end of Foula.

Murrister Wirset is the result of a unique collaboration between Alison Rendall, 2023 Patron of Shetland Wool Week and her neighbour, crofter Hubert, combining their knowledge and the finest native Shetland sheep fleeces to produce the purest Shetland yarn they could.

Well bred native Shetland breed sheep, evolved over centuries in the landscape, with high standards of animal welfare produce some of the finest wool in the world. Alison has designed Murrister Wirset to be a fine but strong yarn, ideal for traditional Fair Isle stranded knitting in carefully considered colours.

6 x 25g balls of 100% Shetland native breed wool, 2ply equivalent to 4ply/fingering weight.
