Lindsay Girvan is the founder of Future Vintage, a circular knitwear brand shaped by the natural colours, textures, and quiet integrity of Shetland wool. Last month, we were delighted to be invited to visit Lindsay on her farm in the picturesque town of Linlithgow.

Lindsay has created a collection of natural, un-dyed knitwear which is made in her onsite atelier, just a stone's throw away from where her wool producing sheep are reared. The pieces are designed with a shepherd’s wardrobe in mind - a thoughtful, seasonally evolving collection that reflects the land it comes from.

Shetland Sheep

The highlight of our visit was meeting the flock of pedigree Shetland sheep whose soft fleeces - white, moorit (brown), black and katmoget (grey) - form the palette of Lindsay's collection. 'Moorit' and 'katmoget' are just two of many words in the Shetland dialect used to describe fleece colours.

As we entered the field, Lindsay called to the flock and they came bounding towards us. Shetland sheep are a small, good natured breed and Lindsay's flock are friendly and affectionate. Some even gently tapped our knees with their hooves to request more pets!

Luxury Knitwear

Lindsay draws on a lifelong connection to textiles and Scottish craft heritage, creating garments and accessories on restored Scottish Dubied knitting machines with her small team. Each piece is finished by hand in her stone cottage atelier on Bonnytoun Farm.
