Waxed Cotton Field Bag Earth
Made exclusively for the Scottish Textiles Showcase
Our waxed cotton canvas field bags are a great combination of two Scottish cloths, waxed cotton canvas and Harris Tweed. The bags are finished with oak tanned leather.
Handmade exclusively for us by Fernweh in Aberdeen, these practical bags are designed with longevity and durability in mind and are available in two colour ways, Earth (shown here) and Sky. The green and brown hues in the earthy waxed cotton canvas are reflected in the Harris Tweed which has a spectrum of gorgeous colours skilfully woven into it.
For over 150 years, Halley Stevensons mill has been specialising in weaving waxed cotton from their mill in Dundee, Scotland. Waxed cotton canvas is, as the name suggests, a cotton that has been treated with wax to give it a water resistant finish. With use, the fabric will mark and crease, but these markings are an inherent characteristic of the cloth.
The pure wool Harris Tweed is hand woven in the Western Isles of Scotland by master weaver Donald John Mackay. Harris Tweed is protected by an Act of Parliament and can only be woven in the homes of the Harris Tweed weavers on the Isle of Harris and Lewis. Look for the Orb label of authenticity inside the bag!
The bags are finished with oak tanned leatherwork from the UK's last oak bark tannery which uses a slow, zero waste process to tan each hide.
