This luxurious Shetland wrap features a deep border of traditional Fair Isle pattern in natural white, black and shaela (natural dark grey).
Designed and knitted by Joan Fraser in Shetland. Joan says about her work
"We love the classic style of the Fair Isle patterns and their infinite variety, the way they evolve and renew with each generation. A hallmark of our style is an understated and elegant approach, resulting in harmonious compositions that are equally at home in country and city"
This gorgeous Fair Isle wrap features a gentle wave pattern knitted in natural white and sholmit (natural mid grey). A wide band in the centre of the wrap is knitted in subtle one-and-one 'birdseye' pattern. Rows of 'peeries' (small traditional linking patterns) in shaela and natural white define the central band and echo the border patterning.
The Shetland wool is spun at Jamiesons of Shetland wool mill also on Shetland.
The Shetland Isles are located to the distant north of the Scottish mainland and have long been a stopping-off point for seafarers on the Baltic and Scandinavian trading routes, and over the centuries has absorbed influences from many cultures. These rich sources are reflected in the motifs and pattern structures of Fair Isle knitting.
