Made with superfine pure merino wool this super soft black and white neck cowl or buff is part of our range of traditional Fair Isle designed knitwear from Shetland. Sumptuously soft to touch, the design is based on geometric heritage Shetland patterns and the black and white replicate traditional natural colours.
This beautiful cowl or infinity scarf is made at Bakka, a remote coastal croft on Shetland, and great care is taken to produce each individual cowl to the highest standard with hand finished seams and edges, as can be seen in the close up images. The seam at the back is hardly visible. The Saltire refers to the dominant criss cross design in this scarf. This range is slightly shorter in length than the Lozenge design range but a little thicker.
Fair Isle is a name given to the patterns and designs used by knitters in the northern Shetland isles region of Scotland. These designs are now on display in local museums and are in danger of dying out so they have been used here as the source of inspiration for a contemporary modern day scarf made with the finest merino wool.
